Benin, Edo – Four gay suspects who allegedly jumped bail after being arraigned in court have been declared wanted by the Edo State Police Command.

A police bulletin issued in Benin City on February 9, 2016 said the four suspects; Omorogieva Prosper, Imafidon Osadolor, Osazuwa Omokaro, Omorodion Osayande and others were arrested at an End of Year LGBTQ Party in Benin City on December 10, 2015.

The police said following preliminary investigations, all the suspects were charged to the Evbuoriaria Magistrate Court on December 12, 2015 where they were granted bail and asked to report back on January 11, 2016.

It however noted that the four afformentioned persons in an attempt to pervert the course of justice, failed to show up in court as stipulated in their bail application.

"The Edo Police Command pledges a handsome reward for anyone with useful information that might lead to the arrest of the four suspects as they have been declared wanted", the statement added.

Same sex marriage or relationship is considered a taboo in Nigerian communities. It is also a criminal offence.

The 2014 anti same sex law in Nigeria prescribes between 10 to 14 years jail term for anyone found guilty of committing the crime.
